Team Michelle Wie defeated Team Christina Kim 20-15 in the USS Alabama
Team Michelle Wie defeated Team Christina Kim 20-15 in the USS Alabama putting challenge on the deck of the USS Alabama battleship. Artificial greens were placed on the deck just below the battleship’s big guns and servicemen representing Hope For The Warriors joined the LPGA Tour pros — in town for the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic at Magnolia Grove’s Crossings Course this week — for the putting challenge.
Participants had the choice of putting from long range (three points), mid-range (two points) or close range (one point). The first team to reach 20 points won the competition.
Team Michelle got out to a decent lead early and held on for the victory.
Hope For The Warriors is the main beneficiary of charitable proceeds from this week’s tournament and the organization will be featured throughout the tournament.
Kim’s team included 1st Sgt. Frank Armenta of the U.S. Army and Cpl. Nickolas Buchhaas of the U.S. Marine Corps. Armenta, originally from Phoenix, Ariz., has served in the Army as a medic for more than 20 years. He was deployed at the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom, sustaining his first injury in 2003 while in Fallujah. he deployed to Afghanistan in 2007 where he was injured for a second time. he is now retired and lives in Phoenix with his wife and family.
Team Michelle was led by former Marine John Davison and Marine Sgt. Jared Mount. Davison was born in Alvin, Texas, and served five years in the Marines before being honorably discharged in October of 2007. During his time in the Marines, he deployed to Iraq twice, the first time in 2004 and then again in 2005. he now resides in Pearland, Texas.
