Soft Neutral Smoke Tutorial

Hey all! Just thought I’d do a quick tutorial on how to achieve a soft, simple smokey eye that’s neutral enough for daytime, but can easily transition to evening as well.

We all wear many hats, I for instance, am a student, a worker bee, a blogger, a designer…the list can just go on, lol. I think every girl should learn a versatile makeup look that is acceptable for school/work, but can be ramped up for an impromptu night on the town! So, without further ado, I’m going to show you a simple, six-step routine which is my go-to look for days when I just don’t know what may be in store.

Step 1: Apply a sandy-nude shade to your eyelid as a base shadow color.

Step 2: Apply a creamy ivory shade to your brow bone to highlight your brow arch.

Step 3: Apply black or dark brown pencil eyeliner to the outer corners of your upper and lower lash lines.

Step 4: Using a deep espresso shade, layer over the pencil eyeliner, blending and smudging to create a smokey look.

Step 5: With a medium-brown shade, blend the edges of the espresso shadow to soften any harsh lines.

Step 6: Curl lashes, apply mascara, and you’re done!

*Option to apply dramatic winged eyeliner and false lashes to transition to evening. (I should have included a picture, sorry!)

Things to consider:

I strongly suggest that you prep by applying an eyeshadow primer to your eyelids prior to applying shadow. Not only does it make your shadow last longer, it makes the color more vibrant. Also, I’m using neutral shadows here for the sake of versatility, from light to dark: ivory, sandy-nude, medium brown, and espresso. However, you can pretty much use this technique with any shade, as long as you have the 4 values varying from light to dark.

Hope some of you found this tutorial helpful and thanks for reading! 🙂
