ASIANCE: How did you get into photography as a profession?

Jasmine: I always loved weddings and I wanted to be in the industry. However, I didn’t know which career path I should take. It wasn’t until I discovered my love for photography that I eventually found myself as a wedding photographer. I began by photographing my friends which led to an expansion of my portfolio. A few years ago, I started my own wedding photography business. I’m very grateful that my full-time job is something I am incredibly passionate about. It never feels like work!

ASIANCE: What is the best education/training to be a successful, professional photographer?

Jasmine: The best education/training to be a successful photographer is to practice, practice, practice. There has not been a single day that I stopped thinking or practicing my photography skills. It’s also very important to network with other local photographers and vendors who will help contribute to your business whether it’s by referring other clients or even give advice.

ASIANCE: What did your parents say that you were pursuing photography as a profession?

Jasmine: My parents were both very supportive in my decision to become a photographer. They have always encouraged me to go after what I love most and that’s exactly what I did.

ASIANCE: What constitutes a great wedding photo? What are you looking to capture?

Jasmine: A great wedding photo consists of an awesome couple, beautiful light, and composition. I aim to capture moments and personalities whether the couple is laughing, holding each other passionately or even being goofy with each other. It’s all about creating a fun, romantic, and creative atmosphere.

ASIANCE: Was there ever a favorite shoot?

Jasmine: There are so many favorite shoots I wish I could name them all! But if I had to choose one, my favorite would have to be photographing a bride and groom with their show horses on an open field. The sun was setting and was casting the most beautiful golden light on them. The couple was also a pleasure to work with because their chemistry and love for each other was literally glowing!

ASIANCE: What are your favorite themes?

Jasmine: My favorite wedding themes are those in a rustic setting. I’m in love with outdoor ceremonies that include barn receptions and twinkling lights. I love the characteristics of an old country barn because when fresh flowers are added (love peonies and garden roses) along with a charming bride and groom, the photographs turn out stunning!

ASIANCE: Any bad experiences?

Jasmine: I’ve never had any bad experiences and if I did, I would never consider it a bad experience. I take every opportunity to improve and develop my skills as an artist and as an individual.

ASIANCE: Best experience?

Jasmine: My best experiences are those when couples have a fun time in front of my camera. They forget that the camera is there by being themselves. When a couple can express their personalities to me, I am able to capture some of the best images of them. Once the photos are delivered to the couple, the best gift is when they tell me how much they love the photographs. I couldn’t ask for more!

ASIANCE: Who would be your ultimate couple to shoot?

Jasmine: My ultimate couple that I would love to photograph are those who are madly in love with each other and isn’t afraid to show their affection while I am photographing them.

ASIANCE: Any advice for aspiring photographers?

Jasmine: My advice for aspiring photographers is to never stop practicing. Keep your passion for photography alive by going out to the field and shoot. When you are editing your photos, look to see where you can improve your skills and take those critiques to the next session. You’ll be surprised by how fast you can grow as a photographer. If you fuel your love for photography, it can take you to places beyond your imagination.
