John Tran, Virginia’s first Asian American judge, ttok the bench in Fairfax

John Tran, Virginia’s first Asian American judge, ttok the bench in Fairfax County for the first time Friday.

The Virginia General Assembly elected Tran, 53, a McLean resident, in early May. He took his oath of office on June 27.

Tran is a former state and federal prosecutor and serves on the Fairfax Bar Association’s (FBA) Board of Directors.

“The FBA is certain that Judge Tran will be another asset to our already highly praised Circuit Court bench,” said Edward Weiner, president of the FBA.

Tran was born in Vietnam. He immigrated to the Washington area in 1970. He is the son of a South Vietnamese diplomat who lived in Arlington and graduated from Yorktown High School in 1977.

He earned his undergraduate and law degrees from George Washington University.
