The two-times world champ married Faryal Makhdoom, 20, last month in a series of Muslim ceremonies.
Speaking about his big day for the first time, beaming Amir told the Daily Star it was more exhausting than any of his fights.
He added: “I thought fighting was hard! We had the main wedding in New York and then came back to Manchester for more celebrations.
“In total it lasted about two weeks with about eight different events. It was so tiring.
The 2004 Olympic silver medalist will now make the most of his time off before preparing for his next fight in December.
Although the couple are keen for a big family, Amir said kids would have to wait until he has achieved his dream of becoming world champion again.
Amir’s next fight was predicted to be in December against American world champion Devon Alexander, 26, with Dubai expected to host the battle.
However, Alexander’s trainer Kevin Cunningham recently hinted the IBF welterweight title clash would not go ahead.
But Amir yesterday accused the American of running scared, saying: “It seems to me that Alexander is pulling away from the fight. You could say he’s running scared.
