Nikki Haley not Mitt Romney’s VP
Ohio Sen. Rob Portman may be moving up the short list of Mitt Romney’s potential running mates, while South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley appears to have dropped off.
“No, I am not,” replied Ms. Haley after being asked is she was being vetted by the Romney campaign.
“I have made it very clear from the very beginning that I love my job, I love South Carolina and I made a promise to the people of my state [to complete my term] and I have to keep it,” said Ms. Haley during an interview at the Farnborough International Air Show promoting South Carolina aerospace.
Ms. Haley has been seen as a potential vice presidential pick for Mr. Romney, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, but Ms. Haley’s statement could put to rest speculation about her future on the ticket.
Mr. Romney is said to be reviewing several female candidates for the number two spot ahead of the August Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., according to comments by Ann Romney, the candidate’s wife, to CBS News last week.
New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte is widely assumed to be in consideration and some supporters of Mr. Romney are pushing for former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, despite her repeated statements about her lack of interest in serving as the GOP vice presidential candidate.
