Popular blogger Michelle Phan was keeping a personal blog in which she depicted myself as the girl she wanted to be, with money and a great family. But it was all a veneer. In reality her life was hard, and she was struggling with insecurities she’d had for years.

Growing up in Florida as one of the few Asian kids, Michelle always got made fun of because she was different. To cope she holed up in her room, drawing superheroes and reading. In one sketch she created a magical version of herself that had the superpower to save her family from their situation.
