Lochte Demolishes Phelps In First Olympics Match Up

It was one of the most highly-anticipated pairings in the 2012 Summer Olympics, swimmers Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte went head-to-head in the men’s 400 meter individual medley, and it was no contest.

Lochte swept the floor with his friend, winning gold while Phelps, a full three seconds behind, finished out of the medals in fourth place.

“It was just a crappy race,” Phelps said.

Ryan’s win earned Team USA its first gold medal in these games, and had First Lady Michelle Obama on her feet cheering.

Lochte and the once-invincible Phelps will meet again in the 200 IM.
