Oakland Mayor Jean Quan Warned by Federal Court
Oakland Mayor Jean Quan faces punishment from the federal court if she skips another deposition about the pace of Police Department reforms, a magistrate warns.
Attorneys Jim Chanin and John Burris are trying to put the Police Department under federal receivership. They say the department has failed to fully implement reforms required under a 2003 court order.
The San Francisco Chronicle says the mayor canceled an all-day deposition on Aug. 30.
A federal magistrate has now warned the mayor to show up at a Sept. 25 deposition or she will face possible punitive actions.
The mayor says she will be there to testify.
The lawyers want Quan’s answers before an Oct. 4 deadline for submitting arguments on whether a federal judge should impose receivership.
Mayor Quan has had quite the amount controversy since she entered office! Not good for the first Asian American woman to lead a major U.S. city.
