M.I.A. cut ties with her record label Roc Nation last week by abruptly notifying fans via Twitter. “I’m leaving .?.?. Thanks to everyone who supported the .?.?. LP.”
Her relationship with Roc Nation, home to Rihanna, soured last summer when she said her album “Matangi” was needlessly delayed, and a documentary on its making was pulled by the label after director Steve Loveridge leaked it online.
Loveridge responded by telling Roc Nation brass, “Count me out. Would rather die than work on this.”
