Last night, in New York City, TODAY hosts Matt Lauer and Al Roker hosted the 2014 Golden Goggles Awards, to celebrate the accomplishments of the U.S. Swim Team at the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships, where the Americans topped the medal table with 43 medals (16 gold, 13 silver, 14 bronze). The evening benefited the USA Swimming Foundation.

Of course, these champions are not without Asian American participation!

Felicia Lee is a Stanford Alum. She placed third in the 100m fly at 2014 Phillips 66 Nationals to earn a spot on the Pan Pacs roster. She is from New Jersey, but trains in California. She is looking to make the Olympic team #Rio2016.

Fan favorite and Gold medalist, Nathan Adrian, came out to present on behalf of USA Swimming Foundation. We look forward to seeing him make the Olympic team #Rio2016 in the 50m, 100m and 200m.

Micah Lawrence is an American competition swimmer who specializes in the breaststroke. She was a member of the 2012 United States Olympic team, and finished sixth in the world in the 200-meter breaststroke event at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She also makes a cameo in Missy Franklin’s new film, ‘Touch the Wall’, with her coach David Marsh.

Did you know? The United States of America is one of only three countries in the world that does not provide government funding for its Olympic athletes.

Professional swimming is a full-time job and the average age has risen. Extensive training, travel and competition are required of our athletes – and their dedication to the sport is what has kept USA Swimming’s National Team at the top of the medal stand for more than 50 years. In order to maintain their level of training and their commitment to being a champion in the pool and in life, our swimmers rely on funding from USA Swimming and the USA Swimming Foundation to get their jobs done.
