The chairwoman of a Chinese investment group recently met with Suffolk County
The chairwoman of a Chinese investment group recently met with Suffolk County officials to explore creating a cultural arts and education center in Long Island’s eastern-most county.
Linda Wong, chairwoman of the Yihai Group, met with Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy and Economic Development Commissioner Yves Michel last Friday and Saturday to discuss the possibility of founding a cultural and educational center in Suffolk that would complement research facilities with a worldwide appeal, such as Brookhaven National Laboratory, Stony Brook University and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.
After discussions with Levy, Wong was treated to a tour of some of the many vibrant areas in Suffolk by Michel.
For his part, Michel said Wong seemed very interested in investing and building its center in Suffolk County, and that discussions would be ongoing.
The discussions follow Levy’s June trip to Xuwen County, China, where he signed a memorandum of understanding with government officials there to facilitate increased cooperation between the two municipalities in aspects of education, economic development and trade.
