Teal Ombre Cat Eye Tutorial

Because I received a number of requests for a tutorial, I put together an image diagram illustrating the steps required to achieve the popular “ombre cat eye” that I did the other day.

It was pretty challenging to document, actually, because the look is pretty complex as it is and it made me nervous doing it step by step and photographing along the way. It’s not perfect, but I think you can get the gist of it.

Product list:

  • UD Primer Potion in Eden
  • Maybelline Lasting Drama gel eyeliner
  • UD eyeshadow in Blackout
  • Maybelline Color Tattoo in Edgy Emerald
  • Coastal Scents Original 88 palette (3 teal shades of varying values)
  • Maybelline Full N Soft Waterproof mascara
  • Ardell #120 eyelashes

Instructions:

  1. I applied Maybelline Color Tattoo Edgy Emerald from my lash line up to my natural crease on my pre-primed eyelid.
  2. Using Maybeline Lasting Drama black gel eyeliner, I lined my upper lash line and sketched out a cat eye wing.
  3. I lightly filled in the wing shape with remaining gel eyeliner from my brush.
  4. I layered a light teal shade over the cream shadow of the inner corner of my upper eyelid.
  5. Next I layered a medium shade of teal over the center of my upper eyelid.
  6. Then I layered the deepest shade of teal over the outer corner of my upper eyelid.
  7. Using a little more black gel eyeliner, I redefined my cat eye wing.
  8. I lined my lower lash line with black gel eyeliner and accented it with the medium teal shade. Then I darkened the outer corner of my cat eye with a matte black shadow. (UD Blackout)
  9. To complete the look, I curled my lashes, applied mascara, and affixed Ardell #120 lashes to my upper lash line.

No lie, my friends, this is definitely an intermediate/advanced look. Even throughout the 9 steps, I was constantly going back in and refining, sharpening, shading, blending. The results are worth it, however. So, practice, practice, practice and have fun with it! I’d love to make a video tutorial for this in a few weeks, but can’t really do so at the moment because I’m super-swamped with school stuff. Thanks for reading and happy Monday! -_-

Hugs,
Cat

  • Apologies. We had to change the date of the demo this coming weekend to accommodate Senator Tony Avella. His schedule was already filled for Saturday – but he is available for this event on Sunday.

  • I’m glad someone is watching the horses. It’s horrible that these carriage owners continue to work them in this heat.

  • We will be protesting the incident that occurred mid day Saturday, July 16th when an unattended carriage horse spooked after the carriage in front of him moved too close. Terrified, he bolted into traffic and galloped from 5th to 7th Avenue on Central Park South and hit a parked car. There was a small report in the Daily News. We do not know if the horse was injured. This is a very serious public safety issue. At 1200-2000 pounds, spooked horses become unwitting weapons and are a danger to themselves and passersby.

We will also be protesting the horses working in the very hot weather and the existing laws that cover this. Carriage horse driving is suspended when the temperature reaches 90 degrees according to a special thermometer used by the ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement Officer. There is no consideration for humidity. There is also no provision in the law to lift the suspension and the drivers come back at will.

TAKE ACTION Please call your council member. This is the council web site — http://council.nyc.gov/html/members/members.shtml — For those who live outside NYC, please call Speaker Christine Quinn at (212) 564-7757 or (212) 788-7210 Tell them that the carriage horse industry must be shut down. It is unsafe and inhumane and it is only a matter of time before a person is killed. It has happened elsewhere.

That carriage driver is such an abusive jerk with a nasty fowl mouth! I’m sorry he said such nasty things to you and I really respect that you stood up to him on behalf of that horse. How absolutely frustrating that the temperature laws mean absolutely nothing! I cannot believe that the tourists still agreed to forcing that horse to work after witnessing that conversation! Horrible and sad.

This made Monday better, and prettier. Could you mention (in the future) if, for someone at your level of expertise, what the time requirement is to achieve the look….ie: 5 minutes or 30 minutes.

I’m glad you liked it! I’d say this look takes about 10-15 minutes for the eyes alone, which is a fairly good amount of time for someone experienced with makeup. My lazier looks are about 5 minutes, total, for eyes.
