Makeup Show NYC 2014 Highlights
If you are a makeup junkie like us, The Makeup Show NYC is the cure for the addiction. With over 120 brands mix and mingle with the pros in the industry, meet the owners and creative forces behind next year’s trends, and take some classes to learn new techniques. Over the weekend we had a chance to hear about makeup artist, James Vincent’s favorite products from the show.
As Asian facial features tend to be flat, one of the best ways to add dimension is through the illusion of sculpting. Professional make up artist, Danessa Myricks, came out with a category_ide- The Power of Contouring, which is a step by step category_ide to masterful contouring with transformative and amazing results. To get started try Nars Contour blush with the highlighter and sculpting coloration in one compact.
One of the biggest trends is waterproof makeup. Ardency Inn’s one stroke waterproof liquid eyeliner makes it easy and effortless to get a perfectly stroked cat eye or smoky eye with its marker tip that’s a must have in every makeup artist’s bag of tricks. Cattiva makes a great waterproof eye liner for a flawless finish. Make Up For Ever introduced a line of creamy aqua matic eye liners for creaseless and waterproof shadows. Create the perfect smoky eye with Surratt’s smoky eye baton. For a pearlized finish Vincent Longo is multifaceted pearl x eyeshadow with a mottled pink blue and brown combination to get a 3D effect.
For a defined brow, Youngblood is introducing a brow sculpting pencil to achieve the perfect arch and fill in for thin areas.
One of the breakthrough products we have seen is the Eve Pearl invisible finish powderless powder with Astaxanthin that transforms skin by diffusing pores, absorbing oil and shine allowing skin to breathe, and reducing fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes. Another game changing product is Fantabulash’s easy to use eyelash tape that does away with irritating eyelash glue. Its hypo allergenic, and free of latex or formaldehyde.
For highlighted glowing skin try the Mario Badesco summer shine body lotion with hints of pearlized gold. For the face, get an airbrushed glow with Temptu’s champagne shimmer.
One of our personal favorite lip products is the obsessive compulsive cosmetics tarred (black) and feathered (white) lip duo. With its monochromatic look, the black sheer gloss can darken any lip color and the white will brighten colors. Simply genius! Another new intro from OCC is their stained gloss that goes on and looks like a gloss but has staying power for all day sheer coverage.
Makeup application is only as good as its brushes. Sephora is introducing a new line of super premium brushes called ‘Airbrush’ that are a favorite of makeup artists.
