Exciting news from L’Oréal Paris as they recently announced the debut of their new virtual app, Makeup Genius. Most of us can relate to that moment standing in the drugstore aisle or at Sephora debating whether to take a chance on a bright orange lipstick or a trendy orchid eye shadow. Now this amazing app has a solution! Simply scan the product, try it on, and see exactly how it’s going to look on you.

Makeup Genius uses your smartphone’s front-facing camera to let you try on anything from eye shadows, eyeliners, lipsticks, lip glosses, and blushes in real time, as opposed to the old-school uploaded picture technologies. It uses a super-advanced facial mapping algorithm to map out 64 points on your face, identifying your facial features and even your skin tone. You then are able to instantly upload any product, shade, or look onto your face (a virtual makeup application) with the touch of a button. You can even make facial expression like smile to see the effect in real time!! It allows for 400 lighting situations, and you can tilt your face backwards and forwards as if you’re looking in a mirror. The most amazing part is just how realistic it looks and because it takes your skin tone into consideration works well for all ethnicities, excellent for our Asian complexions!

And if having this amazing technology at the tip of our fingers isn’t enough, you will also have access to it at participating stores on digital terminals. Simply scan any L’Oréal label and instantly test out that particular product. So excited to try this out and even more excited how these technologies will make shopping for makeup an even more fun experience.
