How the Planets can be the GPS to your future
Ever wondered ‘Why these things happen ONLY to me?’, ‘When will MY LIFE change?’. I have, on numerous occasions, and searched for answers. In my quest for finding ‘answers’, I came across Sanjeev Verma, a renowned Indian Canadian Vedic Astrologer, who has been practicing for over 28 years and also serves as a Vedic Counselor for the Deepak Chopra Center. My knowledge on this topic was limited and to some degree, I am ‘on the fence’ on astrology!
So I decided to ask Sanjeev, 12 Questions (honoring the 12 zodiac signs) on the influence of astrology on an individual’s life.
ASIANCE: What is a Horoscope?
Sanjeev: Map of an individual’s destiny and an Astrologer is a Map Reader!
ASIANCE: What information is needed to create an individual’s horoscope?
Sanjeev: To create an accurate horoscope, one must provide,
Date of Birth
Time of Birth
Place of Birth
If you don’t have,
Time of Birth– A horoscope (or a birth chart) can still be created based on a Date of Birth and a Place of Birth. An astrologer will use a ‘Moon Rising’ i.e. where the moon was based on the date and place of birth. 50% of an individual’s information is coded into their moon rising sign.
If none of the three pertinent pieces of birth information is available, an astrologer will conduct a ‘Horary’ reading- or in simple terms, ‘Chart based on a Question’ (called ‘Prashna’ chart in Vedic terms). A chart will be created based on the present moment when the question/concern/event is being asked.
ASIANCE: How is one individual’s chart different from the other?
Sanjeev: A horoscope of a birth chart is a package of one’s previous lives ‘Karma’ put together to define one’s destiny! Birth activates the 5 senses and when an individual enters this universe, receives a unique road map that defines their life path and ultimately destiny. Every human is unique with a distinct set of DNA, Biometrics, Personality traits and most definitely a different Horoscope. Even identical twins born a few moments apart have different destinies!
ASIANCE: How can an individual’s horoscope change during the course of his or her life?
Sanjeev: Horoscope is like a prerecorded DVD, where the DVD is entered into a DVD player, and then the digital reader reads the actual story on the DVD and unfolds on the TV screen. The same way a prerecorded DVD of our destiny when entered the DVD player, which in this case is the world, and time is the digital reader, which unfolds every single second of the story, on the large screen of the universe!
Our soul is free of karma and the mind holds the karma. While destiny stays the same, every individual is gifted with ‘Free Will’ which is available through their intentions at the given moment. By putting ‘positive’ karma towards a particular negative situation using intention, an individual can reduce the impact and negativity of any given situation in life. Positive Karma put in motion with intention towards a negative situation reduces the negative karma in any situation in life.
ASIANCE: How can one, use astrology to better their life?
Sanjeev: The most important aspect of astrology and a horoscope is to know the purpose of life and the roadmap provided. Then it comes to acceptance, that this is ‘Who I am’, ‘This is my given life path’ to get from Point A to Point B. In the journey of getting from Point A to B, one can take numerous detours which can make the journey more stressful or can follow the recommended life path and be quick and smooth. One’s horoscope provides the roadmap and category_idance on balancing our Karma with other souls and the universe and provides clarity in this journey.
ASIANCE: Most of us are waiting for (or have already found) ‘The One’! How can astrology help find our ultimate match, our ‘Soul Mate’?
Sanjeev: A ‘Soul Mate’ is finding a karmic connection with another individual that will balance life’s give and take. This will include both the ‘good and the bad’. Astrologically speaking, in the complex matrices of life and our subsequent karma, there is a system of Time, Space, and Yourself (Self Identity as a unique individual). Within this system, two individuals’ karmic paths are intertwined. When they will come together is dependent on time. Timing and one’s life path are key for these two individuals to coexist and merge and meet in the center of this large circular universe.
ASIANCE: You practice Vedic Astrology, how is this different from Western astrology?
Sanjeev: Vedic Astrology is based on Moon Signs and Constellations (in simpler terms, stars or ‘Nakshatras’ in Sanskrit).
Western Astrology is based on Sun signs and transits.
ASIANCE: Is there such a thing as ‘Destiny’? If yes, can it be altered?
Sanjeev: Yes- Destiny exists! An individual’s destiny comes from their karmas of lives past and present. It can’t be altered but can be enhanced or reduced based on an individual’s positive intentions and actions that can help heal and improve a situation.
ASIANCE: Astrology as a ‘Science’ has been questioned by many (including yours truly) What do you say to a non believer?
Sanjeev: Every individual has a unique belief system. Science has not reached a point of evolution of knowing and understanding astrology. Science believes in ‘every action has a reaction as a single entity’. Astrology believes in Cosmic Oneness, where a variety of factors (in this case planets or heavenly bodies) come together to define one’s life path that is reliant on their karma. As the world is moving towards a more spiritual path, more people are acknowledging astrology’s existence.
ASIANCE: There are many astrologers, psychics, tarot readers out there. How do you distinguish the ‘real deal’ from the rest?
Sanjeev: There are good and bad representatives in every profession (doctors, attorneys, you name it, it exists…). A good astrologer, does not focus on the negatives in an individual’s chart, instead they will recommend ‘remedies’ on improving a situation. I do not discuss death and other negative aspects if seen in one’s horoscope.
I recommend checking testimonials and reviews prior to selecting an astrologer. But ultimately, it is an individual’s unique experience that will define and determine their belief and relationship with the astrologer. Referrals from close confidants are always a good way to go! Astrologers have a karmic responsibility to provide an individual with positive solutions to any bumps and blips in their life chart.
ASIANCE: I like to read my monthly horoscope for pleasure, the character traits and forecast defining my zodiac sign doesn’t always reflect my life. Why is that?
Sanjeev: There are 12 zodiac signs and about 7 billion people in this universe. These horoscopes are written for the masses and do not define every individual’s unique life path. Vedic Astrology focuses on three key aspects, with each sign having an equal importance in determining one’s life path:
Zodiac Sign
Moon Sign
Rising Sign
In most cases, there are 3 signs that are affecting each individual and not just one! In some very rare cases, an individual could have all three signs in the same sign. Hence, the mass zodiac horoscope does not apply to an individual’s unique karmic path.
ASIANCE: Any predictions for the immediate future for North America and the World?
Sanjeev: From now to the end of 2015,
Global- There is a major consciousness shift coming with the rise of spiritual awareness among the youth.
North America- ‘Rethinking’ the way business with other countries/parts of the world is conducted. There is a major shift in the way we approach life’s aspects in food, thought transformation, business transaction, and ultimately impacting the North American economy.
Thanks Sanjeev for the quick tutorial! I had Sanjeev prepare my horoscope and it has been uncannily accurate on my past and present and currently known future paths!
