Bollywood stars pay tribute to Robin Williams

Bollywood stars have paid tribute to Robin Williams.

Shabana Azmi, Anil Kapoor, Karan Johar and Abhishek Bachchan were among the Bollywood stars to express their shock and sadness on hearing news of his passing.

Johar said: “I am a big fan of Robin Williams. It’s sad to fathom the fact that the man who had spread so much happiness across the world with his works could take his own life.

“It’s extremely saddening and distressing piece of news for a ‘fan’ like me. His films like Dead Poets Society, Mrs. Doubtfire and Good Will Hunting left a deep impact on me.”

Farah Khan said she could not believe the news, adding: “It’s inconceivable that someone who has lighted up our lives with his ‘positive’ movie roles would himself be a victim of depression.

“Can’t believe Patch Adams can die in such a manner. His joviality, wit and a wealth of inspirational movies will always remain with us. In the last six months, I again watched some of his films like Jumanji, Mrs Doubtfire etc with my kids who are his huge fans.”

Queen star Kangana Ranaut said that many actors are afflicted with depression as they cope with the rigors of fame.

“In this world, I feel it’s not so much about loneliness. Actors play with the most important organ of their body which is their brain. In order to achieve their target, they tend to believe what’s actually not there. We do this every day. Once you start believing in what actually doesn’t exist, you eventually become victims of neurosis. Stars have people throwing themselves on them all the time. One needs to take care of themselves.

“Sometimes, their experiences and roles linger around in their subconscious. You get caught in that trap. Dilip Kumar in his biography has shared the story of how he eventually got into depression after playing a series of serious roles. He had to seek help and was eventually asked to not do those roles. Similar thing happened with me after Gangster, Woh Lamhe and Fashion. Actors, after a point, can’t deal with not being creative. But honestly, you have to take care of yourself and draw a line between what’s reel and real. I hope people don’t get carried away.”

Quoting from Dead Poets Society, Bachchan tweeted: “Oh captain, my…… terrible news about the passing of one of my favorite actors. Mr. Robin Williams. This is the 1st time he made anyone cry.”
