The Importance of Mammograms
If you are 40 or older you should be getting an annual mammogram. I just had my annual mammogram. It was actually a fun experience! I met a lovely doctor and she gave me some delicious chocolates and gave me a couple of the office fashion magazines. It is not at all painful=that is a myth! It goes quickly and you get your results right away. Luckily, I am perfectly fine!! 🙂 If you have a medical history of breast cancer and/or ovarian cancer in your immediate family, you should start even sooner! You need to take responsibility for your own health as the Government and Employers want to pay as little as possible to cover your health. I didn’t have a medical history as I am adopted and just found out last year that my birth mother died in 2009 at age 63 of breast cancer! Despite the mammograms, the cancer was too aggressive to be stopped at the point of diagnosis. That information was vital and yet I didn’t have any access to my medical history until just last year.
The reason for this delay in knowledge has to do with the carelessness and strict rules of the Catholic Adoption Agency. Despite my information being available and her endless search to find me, they withheld the information on purpose! She wanted to meet me before she died and that did not happen because of the Adoption Agency. Hence, I have many issues with the Catholic Church and its ridiculous man-made laws! Despite everything, I discovered an amazing half sister. 🙁
If you are not insured, there are many medical centers that grant free mammograms to women.

Harvey Weinstein did a wonderful deed making this film! Although it was too late for me, it isn’t too late for scores of others to find their birth parents and obtain their medical history!

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I would like to share this story with you. If you are not insured, there are many medical centers that grant free mammograms to women. You need to take responsibility for your own health as the Government and most Employers these days want to pay as little as possible to cover your health. I didn’t have a medical history as I am adopted and just found out last year that my birth mother died in 2009 at age 63 of Stage IV Breast Cancer!
I forgive the Catholic Church because despite everything, I discovered an amazing half sister who is so sophisticated, talented and creative! 🙂
We live in a wonderful time where you can actually be tested for the likelihood of your developing Breast Cancer and/or Ovarian Cancer. Thanks to the Supreme Court ruling against Myriad Genetics, this test is now available to all women not just the rich and famous ones like Angelina Jolie! The price of the exam has gone down dramatically as a result of this hearing and every woman who is at risk can be properly tested now. Myriad Genetics was charging thousands per exam which made it out of reach for the average woman but filling the pockets of the super greedy Venture Capitalists and Investors! What else is new?? That being said, there are many Billionaires and VC’s that are honorable and do great things for the world like Paul Tudor Jones who my Family and I greatly admire! Everybody loves him! Stories about his generosity are abundant. 🙂
Harvey Weinstein did a wonderful deed making this film! He was also very gracious to the “real” Philomena! 🙂 Although it was too late for me, it isn’t too late for scores of others to find their birth parents and obtain their medical history!

Breast Cancer-Community Honors Mom’s Fight Against Breast Cancer
October 17, 2014 10:55 PM
What started as a cause with modest goals on Monday became an explosion of pink under Friday night lights for a high school mom in Crystal Lake.
CBS 2’s Brad Edwards was there.
No one has known more change than Jill Weldon. That’s not because of what happened last spring, when she went for her annual mammogram.
“The doctor came in and said, ‘We can almost guarantee you have breast cancer,” Weldon tells CBS 2’s Brad Edwards.
It was Stage 3. Three months later, in July, her husband was killed in a car accident while the two were on vacation.
“He was everything to me,” Weldon says.
One student’s fund-raiser brainchild to honor her friend’s mom was a huge success Friday night.
Organizers thought they’d sell 200 pinks shirts this week. They sold out, re-ordered 500 and counting. The thousands raised will go to a local cancer charity.
Weldon says her heart may be broken, but adds: “This community has been incredible.”
