Question:

I am getting married and am trying to figure out what type of jewelry to wear with my dress. My dress is a romantic princess style dress with a deep round neckline. There is beading all over the dress as well. What can I wear to compliment it without it taking away or blending in with my dress?

Answer: You definitely want the focus to be on your wedding dress. I would suggest an ornate pair of earrings (with pearls, crystals, or both) and a bracelet. With your ornate dress, you don't really need a necklace.

… dress for the job you eventually want to have. You will always be remembered for being well dressed.

Question:

I have an afterwork cocktail event but don’t have time to go home to change. What can I wear that will work for the day and the night?

Answer: You definitely want to wear separates so that you can take off the jacket and get your “evening look”. I suggest a suit with a pencil skirt, and a silk/satin camisole underneath your jacket. For your cocktail event, you just have to take off your suit jacket and you have your sexy evening look. You might want to bring a pair of sparkly chandelier earrings or long dangly earrings which you can wear to your cocktail event. The jewelry will complete your evening cocktail outfit.

Question:

I am starting my first job out of college and am a little unsure of what to wear in a dressy casual job environment?

Answer: I believe you are always best looking more dressed up rather than less as you want to make your best impression. Advice I had given to me straight out of college was to dress for the job you eventually want to have. You will always be remembered for being well dressed.

  • I’m an aspiring Jewelry designer. Do recommend going to school, taking a course or learn as you go?

  • Gina,
I don’t believe you need to go to school formally, but it is also a matter of personal preference. There is a lot to learn in a school, but just know that you can do it without as well. By taking courses from continuing education places and hobby classes, you can learn as well.

I had a formally trained bench jewelry designer tell me that he felt that the 7 years of apprenticeship was unncessary and that to succeed, you need passion, sense for business and design ideas.

    Good luck to you!
