Yoshinobu Iwanaga Guitar Recital

The guitarist of a living legend, Yoshinobu Iwanaga will hold a solo recital in Carnegie Hall (Weill Recital Hall) on June 1, 2007.

He was born in Osaka, Japan. He graduated from the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris with top honors and gave a school sponsored recital at the “salle cortot’ as one of the best graduates of the year. He won the first prize in the first national guitar competition of Japan and the first prize in the third international guitar competition of Gargnano, Italy. He also won the second prize in the 20th International Guitar competition of Paris and many other prizes.

Iwanaga’s music has never been recorded to CD as he believes only the live performance can maintain the quality and integrity of his music. Therefore, the live stage is only way to listen to his music. Now, Iwanaga is coming to the New York debut recital. The finely honed sensitivity and the dynamic performance that is beyond the single musical instrument can play invite the deep impression and enchant the audience.

The ten-string guitar is structurally the same as a six-string guitar. However, the ten-string guitar has a wider range of bass and creates a peculiar resonance sound. Moreover, the arrangement of many classical music becomes possible and the repertoire extends. The ten-string guitar is technically very difficult music instrument. Those who can perform a ten-string guitar are only several globally. The world level performance by the ten-string guitar is very enjoyable.
