I am in the midst of a career transition from the corporate world to the artsy fashion industry. I have a few interviews lined for next week but after looking through my closet, I felt my current business suits are too conservative and could send a stodgy message about my personality to the interviewer. You are absolutely right in assuming your first impression during your interview will be extremely important in showing you “get” what the company is about. First off, I would recommend researching the company’s culture and then try to tailor your look based on the findings. If it turns out you do need to update your look, you don’t need to ditch those corporate navy suits.

Just add some flare to them with fun flirty blouses and accessories. Wear color blouses to contrast the conservative suits and add on layers of jewelry. From my experience, accessories are so key to showing your sense of style.  Your interesting accessories serve as great conversation starters!
