Olympic figure skating champion Kim Yu-na has been named South Korea’s new

Olympic figure skating champion Kim Yu-na has been named South Korea’s new “food envoy,” a role that involves promoting traditional Korean dishes around the world, the government said Wednesday.

The farm ministry said Kim, who won the women’s figure skating gold at the Vancouver Games in February, officially received the position at the four-day long 2010 Seoul International Food Industry Exhibition that kicked off earlier in the day. She is expected to work alongside South Korean singer and actor Rain to generate foreign interest in Korean cuisine. Rain was tapped as the country’s first food envoy in August 2009.
