Director Danny Boyle has been approached to direct the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics.
The organizers of the Olympics believe Danny Boyle has the perfect credentials to mastermind an event that will have a live audience of about 80,000 and be seen by billions around the world on television.
Boyle won eight Oscars with his film Slumdog Millionaire, about the transformation of a poverty-stricken Mumbai boy.
Boyle, 53, who lives near the site of the Games in east London, is understood to be the preferred candidate of the Olympics organizers who will make their final choice over the summer.
A senior source closely involved in planning the Games said Boyle was a favored candidate because of his creative panache. “We want the most imaginative ceremony the world has ever seen.”
He deserves it. He is such a nice man. Read our interview with Dannyy Boyle.
