The New York Asian Symphony Orchestra

Last night we were invited to the NY Society for Ethical Culture to listen to the wonderful music of the New York Asian Symphony Orchestra play Mozart's “Don Giovanni” and Felix Mendelssohn's “Symphony No. 4” in A minor. Since making its concert debut at the United Nations in 2006, the NYASO has achieved an outstanding reputation for quality, vitality and commitment. The international orchestra, comprised of 52 musicians with ties to various Asian countries, is now in its third year and continues to delight diverse audiences, bolstering the permeation of the arts with NYC's Asian communities. Founded by Maestro Atsushi Yamada, the orchestra's mission is to support young talents from different cultures and nationalities performing on some of NYC's storied stages. It's nice to hear and see such talented individuals sharing a stage with people of the same passions and commitments, in front of a captured audience. The place was packed! America needs to invest more in musical educational programs and encourage the younger generation to play an instrument instead of the horrific reality tv programs.
