Japan Fashion Week in NYC

The organizers of Japan Fashion Week brought 13 of Tokyo’s freshest
talents to New York on Tuesday, Jan. 23, staging a runway show which kicked off a week of retail displays and sales at select stores throughout
Manhattan. The goal of bringing the designers to New York, said Japan Fashion Week
board member Masahiko Miyake, was to create recognition and awareness
for these brands little known outside of Japan, as well as to promote
Japan Fashion Week, which starts on March 23. The designers were chosen
for their “sense of character and originality,” said Miyake.
The event helped establish a stronger bond between fashion in New York
and Japan which, with any luck, will only continue to grow. See some of our favorites.
