BoA, Asia’s top recording artist, has finally made her way to the U.S., set to release her highly anticipated English debut album, “BoA,” on March 17, 2009. For the past nine years, fans have witnessed BoA literally grow from a budding tween pop singer to the beautiful, most successful Asian female recording artist she is today. Since 2000, she has wowed new and old fans alike, selling, globally, close to 20 million albums and has released eleven #1 albums. BoA has released albums both in Korean, Japanese, and, now, in English.

Off the English album, BoA has released “Eat You Up” as her initial single, a catchy, upbeat dance/pop song, and it has received nothing but good praise from listeners and has peaked at #8 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart. For the album, BoA had some of the best U.S. songwriters and producers, including Sean Garrett, Henrik Jonback, and Bloodshy & Avant, working with her on the album, so listeners can expect nothing less than extraordinary.

For her debut US album, “BoA,” BoA enlisted the help of top US and Asian hit-makers to bring a unique blend of chart topping hits to the table. Garrett returns with the club banger “Energetic” where BoA celebrates breaking limits and letting her hair down! Brian Kennedy, who has created hits for top recording stars including Rihanna, produced “Obsessed” while Henrik Jonback, brought his Pop expertise to the table with the chart topping “Eat You Up,” “Look Who’s Talking” and “Hypnotic Dancefloor.” Jonback, a new producer, has written several hits for Britney Spears including “Radar.” Bloodshy & Avant , who produced “Did Ya” and “Touched,” have produced several hits for Britney Spears, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Jordin Sparks, Kylie Minogue and more.

Recently, BoA has been making appearances and performing to help promote her new album, performing at events like 102.7 KIIS FM’s 2008 Jingle Ball, and most recently, at Kollaboration 9 at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. This month BoA is set to not only release her album, but also be involved in the iTunes 360 campaign.

Asiance had the chance to catch up with BoA during her stay in the U.S.

ASIANCE: For the past nine years, you’ve gained so much popularity and success in Southeast Asia and have also gained a wide fan base both in Asia and in the U.S. How does it feel to be one of the top female singers in Southeast Asia and becoming successful at such a young age?

BoA: I feel very blessed to have had the success that I’ve had until now. And I really want to thank my fans for all the support they’ve given me throughout the years.

ASIANCE: What motivates you to do your best as a recording artist?

BoA: Once again, my fans have been a huge motivation for me. I always try to give them a great performance!

ASIANCE: What do you think enables you to rise so far above other dancers/singers?

BoA: I guess how much dedication I put into everything I do – from singing to the choreography.

ASIANCE: What’s important to you about your singing/dancing?

BoA: It’s important for me to always practice, practice, practice!

ASIANCE: Can you talk about your experience working with the many talented and well-known producers and songwriters for your English album? Did you get to write any of the songs on this album?

BoA: I was very excited when I found out that I would be working with Sean Garrett and Brian Kennedy and I’m very thankful that these opportunities are coming my way.

ASIANCE: With the debut English album, what hopes do you have for the album and your musical debut here in the U.S.?

BoA: I really hope I can share my music with as many new fans as possible. Touring around America sounds like a lot of fun too!

ASIANCE: For the “Eat You Up” MV, there were two different versions. There was great choreography in the Cha Eun Taek version of the video. How long did it take to learn the whole routine?

BoA: It usually takes a few days to learn routines for music videos, I think it took about 4 days for EYU.

ASIANCE: Being busy all the time since you entered into the entertainment industry, do you have any time to just relax? If so, what do you like to do in your spare time?

BoA: These days, I have a very busy schedule since I’m flying back and forth from Japan and the U.S. But when I do have some time, I like to hang out with my friends, play with my dog and just relax at home.

ASIANCE: Looking back at the past 8-9 years, what advice would you give, from your personal experience, to people who want to be a recording artist like you?

BoA: I honestly believe that you need to have a passion for music. You need to be focused and know that it is not as easy as it looks.

“BoA” will be released on March 17, 2009 and the album can be currently pre-ordered on Amazon.com. If you’re in the Los Angeles area this month, BoA will be performing live at Universal City Walk on Saturday, March 21, 2009 starting at 6:30 p.m.
