Rain arrives in Federal Court

SOUTH Korean pop star Rain has arrived at federal court in Honolulu to testify in a civil lawsuit filed against him over cancellation of his 2007 Hawaii concert.

Before entering the courthouse on Monday, Rain, said ‘Aloha’, flashed a ‘shaka’ sign to a handful of fans and was served with papers on cancelled concerts in other states, including one in Los Angeles. He let the documents fall to the ground.

Honolulu-based Click Entertainment is suing Rain and his former agency for breach of contract and fraud for canceling the concert at Aloha Stadium without explanation.

Plaintiffs say Rain kept a US$500,000 (S$770,980) appearance fee.

The Korean star was scheduled to testify on Monday afternoon.

The courtroom was packed with fans, all female, ranging from grandmothers to teenagers.

UPDATE: Click Entertainment, the local promotion company of the “Rain” concert says it lost more than a million dollars when the ’07 concert fell through. While on the witness stand, Rain testified that he got $5 million for the tour. He said he had no idea why the U.S. concerts were cancelled. The details of the concert were left to the experts so that he could focus on rehearsing. He says he still looks forward to someday performing in Hawaii.

While Rain was walking into court, he was served papers by a Los Angeles promoter who will also be suing Rain for the same cancelled tour.
