Padma turns 40 today! Although, she looks like she’s 30! Her skin is flawless! Here are some interesting tidbits on the Indian princess!
1. She hasn’t always gotten the greatest treatment from the press. In 2005, a New York Times fashion writer described her as “a semicelebrated hustler” and commented that “in the current fashion pantheon Ms Lakshmi … stands for a love of money and commodity.”
2. In an endorsement that surprised many, she teamed up with Carls Jr. for a steamy commercial last year where she enjoys a Western Bacon Cheeseburger. I mean, really enjoys it.
3. She was the fourth wife of award-winning novelist Salman Rushdie, 23 years her senior, from 2004 to 2007, a union that caused many a raised eyebrow. She is the inspiration behind one of the central characters — and love interests — in his novel Fury.
4. She had been estranged from her father most of her life. In a 2006 interview with The Guardian, she said of their reconciliation meeting that he brought along another daughter, 10 years younger than Lakshmi: “She was an Indian actress and classical dancer. My father had quit his job as an executive at Pfizer to manage her career. That was kind of like rubbing salt in the wound. I didn’t understand why he wanted that relationship with her, and not with me.”
5. The 5?11? stunner (some reports put her at 5?9?) was called “giraffe” at school, and says kids could be cruel and didn’t understand her ethnicity. She was also teased for a seven-inch scar she incurred from a car crash when she was 14.
