Austin attorney Ramey Ko receives apology from Betty Brown

Austin attorney Ramey Ko received a personal apology from state Rep. Betty Brown, R-Terrell, for her (now widely-distributed) comments asking if Asian-American voters could maybe change their names to make them more "American" and "easier to deal with".

Ko says Brown told him she meant no offense by her questions on Tuesday. According to Ko, Brown said she was just trying to be helpful and come up with a solution to the problems with the Voter ID bill, and she meant nothing derogatory about Ko or "his race."

"I told her I appreciated the phone call and the personal apology," Ko writes, in an email I just received.

A public apology is to be distributed. A statement has apparently been prepared by Brown and given to former State Rep. Martha Wong (a Houston-area Republican).
