Kim Jong-un was named vice-chairman of the ruling Workers Party’s powerful Central Military Commission.

Jong-un was also named a general at the first party conference in 30 years, which also made the leader’s sister a member of the political bureau and her brother an alternate member. Both are key backers of the young son as the North continues its succession plans due to the ailing Kim Jong-il.
