Members of the public are invited to provide input on the future of a long-planned resource center in North Austin. The facility—expected to open in 2012—has been in the making since 2006 and will help promote Asian American interests.

The next planning workshop for the Asian American Resource Center is planned 10 a.m.–noon Dec. 9 in Room 1101 of City Hall, 301 W. Second St.
Assistant City Manager Rudy Garza will lead a discussion on the status of the Asian American Resource Center at 6 p.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 17 in the Austin Asian American Chamber of Commerce offices, located in Chinatown Center, 10901 N. Lamar Blvd.
The meeting will help planners gather feedback about what to prioritize and expect from the center. The project has reached a point in development where plans must be adjusted.
Possibilities for adapting include creating a smaller space or finding additional funding options. Further schedule delays may also be needed, according to a Texas Asian Chamber of Commerce statement.
The center, to be built on about 15 acres near the intersection of Cameron Road and Rutherford Lane, is planned to include an amphitheater, reception center, meeting rooms and offices, a main street–style retail area, classrooms and a performance hall.
