Dev Patel Cast in an M. Night Shyamalan Film

Dev Patel has been cast in the new film from M. Night Shyamalan titled ‘The Last Airbender’. It is based on the Emmy award winning animated television program ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’.

The preview gives off the sci-fi fantasy feeling perfectly and makes it seem like the movie will be like the ‘Harry Potter’, ‘Lord of the Rings’, and ‘Narnia’ movies. In fact, it has been confirmed that this will be a trilogy. Not only that, but M. Night Shyamalan has also adapted, directed and produced the film.

It’s unclear as of right now whether his character is going to be in the film’s upcoming trilogies, but he does play Zuko, a sixteen year old prince-so it’s likely that he will.

Apparently, there was some controversy as to whom M. Night Shyamalan cast, because the actors were originally all white. But since then, out of possible love for his own Desi people, or growing criticism; he changed the line-up.

  • The controversy was not that the entire cast was white. The controversy was about the fact that Airbender is a wonderful cartoon starring mostly Asian characters and culture, but the movie adaptation ignored that and cast white actors. I’m surprised that Asiance posted this because there is still a lot of anger from the Asian community and fans of the original Airbender toward the casting. One of the points of debate is the fact that Dev Patel plays the EVIL Prince and that most of the Asian cast that was added after the uproar is through minor characters and villains, while the protagonists remained Caucasian.
