Late Wednesday night, the House passed the DREAM Act (qualifying undocumented youth would be eligible for a 6 year long conditional path to citizenship that requires completion of a college degree or two years of military service) – the first immigration legislation to go through the House in ten years. Yesterday, the Senate had the chance to vote on a different version of the DREAM Act. Here’s what happened:

Senate majority leader Harry Reid decided that the best way to get the DREAM Act passed would be to vote on the version of the bill the House passed just hours earlier. That’s why he opted to table the vote on DREAM yesterday, paving the way for a vote on the House-approved version. We can still pass the DREAM Act this year if the House version gets through the Senate.

Bottom line: we have more time to pressure our Senators to pass the DREAM Act.

Can we count on you to keep calling the Senate until they vote on the DREAM Act? We’ve got more time: let’s use it.
