WBA king Amir Khan (24-1, 17 knockouts) earned an HBO televised, Golden Boy Promotions’ unanimous decision over WBA interim titlist Marcos Rene Maidana (29-2, 27 KOs) on Saturday night.

Khan moved to America in 2008 to train under renowned coach Freddie Roach after suffering a stunning first-round defeat by unfancied Colombian Breidis Prescott.

Since then, the 2004 Olympic silver medalist has produced a six-fight unbeaten run which has seen him claim the WBA crown.

Much of the credit must go to Roach but just as crucial has been the presence of eight-division world champion Pacquiao under the same roof at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles.

Two years ago the pair’s sparring sessions were explosive, and now, although the fighters have become good friends, their clashes are still something to behold.
