Li Jing, has been selected as one of the top 10 finalists in the global TV host contest held by Paradisehunter.com. Jing is the only Chinese immigrant finalist, selected from a group of nearly 700 applicants from 21 countries. Considering her background as an immigrant, and the fact that English is her second language, Jing’s success has inspired many. Her secret? Social media and the use of her Chinese background!
Jing is a New York resident and a first generation immigrant. She grew up in Beijing, and moved to the United States at the age of 22. She has reported news and features for top American and Chinese news organizations such as NBC, CBS and the UN. Li Jing is a perfect example of the American Dream and an excellent role model for immigrants, Asians, and many people who have experienced setbacks in life.
Li Jing is a bi-lingual TV personality, blogger, model with award winning experience at international, national, cable and local media. She has worked at NBC New York and WNBC NY Non Stop Cable where she was the only foreign editorial staff. She reports, writes, shoots, edits and produces news and feature stories for its daily broadcast. Jing made her first on air appearance on WNBC cable in 2009.
Jing’s uniqueness is that she has a breakthrough role as one of the first native Chinese speakers to report on American TV. Her story has become an inspiration for many immigrants, Asians and women.
Prior to WNBC, Jing was a lead producer at CBS for the Network News Service overseeing the newsroom to gather and write news from ABC, CBS and FOX stations around the country.
From 2001 to 2005, Jing worked as a TV anchor, reporter and producer for some top Chinese broadcasters such in America as Sinovision, the largest Chinese broadcasters in New York tri-state area. Jing covered various events from Capitol Hill to New York Fashion Week.
Jing was trained to be a businesswoman but decided to pursue journalism after covering September 11 at U.N. Radio in New York. She has since interviewed newsmakers including Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, Michael Phelps, Jude Law and Kofi Annan.
Jing’s passion is not only news, but also international culture. She grew up in China, came to America at 22 and started to speak English. Her background helps her to easily connect and communicate with people from different walks of life.
Her work has been recognized by major journalists organizations. Jing served as a judge for the 2009 South Asian Journalists Association and the 2007 Associated Press annual broadcast contest. In 2004, she became one of the first Asian American Journalists Association members to receive a Wharton Business Journalism Award.
