Hollywood stars with Asian roots joined a fund raising event on on Friday to raise funds for the Japanese Red Cross Society following the March 11 earthquake and tsumani that hit Japan.

More than one hundred people attended the occasion organized by the Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment, the biggest Asian-American professional entertainment industry organization in Hollywood.

Among the celebrities who graced the event were “Star Trek” star George Takei and actress-beauty queen Kelly Hu.

“The need is great and the suffering is even greater and so we got to respond,” sad Takei.

“It’s a cause that, of course, I could have not said no to…we need to run to their aid,” Hu said.

Also there was Filipino-American singer Tia Carrere.

Although she did not perform, Carrere went there to donate her personal things for the Silent Auction.

“You know, whatever you can. Just showing up [to] your support and going to the Silent Auction table. You know, these are the little things we can do and help. It all adds up,” she said.

Filipino-American actor Alec Mapa, on the other hand, has showed off his skills as a comedian.

“I’m glad and I’m honored and grateful to be able to lend my support,” he said.

All the proceeds that was generated from the event will directly be donated to the American Red Cross, which will then transfer the funds to the Japanese Red Cross Society.
