Vietnamese American Scores Lead Role
Virginia-born Vietnamese-American actor, John Wynn, has landed the starring role in an upcoming film about high school wrestlers.
Wynn has won a role that speaks the universal language of friendship, romance and competition. While Beyond the Mat’s premise is about high school wrestlers and their coming-to-age struggles, Wynn’s character is not one that sits on the sidelines. His character is billed as an Asian-American protagonist finding his identity amidst the “plot of romantic quandary places Aaron (Wynn) squarely in the middle as the object of desire.”
“John Wynn has that star quality that captivates you from the moment he’s first on screen,” notes Catch 22 Head of Marketing Susan Wrenn, who in her former post at Paramount Pictures shepherded the media campaigns for such youth-oriented cinematic fare as Wayne’s World, Save the Last Dance, Jackass, Rugrats, Kings of Comedy, Mission Impossible, and Beavis and Butthead. “His performance showcases not only a keen dramatic sense as well as athletic prowess, but also demonstrates his universal appeal.”
Wynn was born to a Vietnamese mother and a half Vietnamese, half French father. He is also a musician, model, singer and TV show host.
The film will be released later this year.
