Shao Yen Shows Some Skin At LFW

Taiwanese designer Shao Yen took part in the On/Off presentation in London where he showed his latest collection of womenswear, inspired by the human anatomy.

The collection is aptly named “Skins”. Perhaps it is not surprising that he chose the anatomy as the idea behind the collection. Having done an internship with Alexander McQueen who was known for his fascination with bones, Yen’s direction is not entirely unfounded. He spent seven years at Central Saint Martins and his craftsmanship is evident in the contours of the pieces, the architecture of its shape and the innovation with textiles. The color palette was not monochromatic; rather, it took creams, nudes, blacks and blues and sculpted them into unique dresses with interesting drapery and refined cuts.

The collection was shown in collaboration with digital artist, Yaojen Chuang who worked alongside Yen to produce the video. Chaung is an architect/designer who also studied at Central Saint Martin and has been invited to participate in the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition for the last two years. He will also be showing his work at this year’s Venice International Architecture Biennale and will launch his solo show in London later this year.
