Who’s Who in the Asian American financial community
The Association of Asian American Investment Managers (AAAIM), a forum for Asian American investment managers to meet and conduct business with plan sponsors, fund-of-funds and institutional investors, announced the agenda for its 2010 conference, Building Bridges: Capital Access, Asia, Government Policy today. The conference will be held at the St. Regis Hotel in San Francisco on October 14-15, 2010.
Building Bridges brings together established names in the international investment community, respected investment professionals from Wall Street’s top financial institutions, principals from Washington, DC and governmental officials to share their success stories. The conference includes panels featuring top limited partners and investors whose decisions and advice have the ability to move markets and trends.
“We are entering a new era of opportunity that will involve a high-level of collaboration between the US and Asia,” said Brenda Chia, President, AAAIM. “Investment professionals who understand the environment and are ready to capitalize on the emerging global economy with a clear understanding of the opportunities as well as the challenges will be poised to create lasting impact.”
The program will feature the Who’s Who in the Asian American financial community as presenters, speakers and honorees including: The Honorable John Chiang, California State Controller, The Honorable John Liu, New York City Comptroller, Christopher Ailman, Chief Investment Officer, CalSTRS, Joseph Dear, Chief Investment Officer, CalPERS, Larry Schloss, Chief Investment Officer, New York City Employees’ Retirement System, Lynda Choi, University of California, Office of the Treasurer of the Regents, Ta-lin Hsu of H&Q Asia Pacific, Benjamin Liou of The Getty Foundation, Yuelin Yang of IMC Corp Singapore, Ginger Lew of the National Economic Council and representatives from the Chinese Consulate and Singapore government. AAAIM will present Ambassador Linda Tsao Yang with the Lifetime Achievement Award. On October 14, the conference will feature a high profile speaker from the U.S. Treasury to be announced the day of the event.

Breakfast keynote with Dr. Ta-lin Hsu, Founder and Chairman, H & Q Asia Pacific and Ambassador Linda Tsao Yang. Dr Hsu is best known for bringing Silicon Valley-style investing to Asia by establishing H&Q AP in 1985. Together, they discuss what it takes to build a successful investment business, the intensifying cross-border opportunities with Asia and how to take advantage of them.
Top investment themes for the next decade – What are the big picture ideas that have lasting impact on emerging managers and seasoned investors alike?
New era for investors: impact of US government policies and decisions -With passage of the Dodd-Frank Financial Reform bill, new regulations and regulatory oversight will change the game for investment professionals. Panelists include Don Graves, U.S. Department of the Treasury, Sean Greene, Small Business Administration, Ginger Lew, White House Economic Council (moderator) and Ann Yerger, Council of Institutional Investors.
Inaugural professional development forum, a series of panels that will explore topics such as whether the Asian glass ceiling is myth or reality and the steps and resources required to start your own fund.
The AAAIM Rapid Fire Summit that will allow managers to present their fund ideas to a panel of limited partners and fund-of-funds who will provide immediate feedback, recommendations and planning strategies for success.
