Freida and Dev Patel now choose Bollywood

Never thought I would hear the words come out of Dev Patel and Freida Pinto’s mouth, “I want to do Bollywood!” Both have become superstars since their roles in Oscar darling Slumdog Millionaire, however their Hollywood careers have been less than stellar.

Dev’s movie “The Last Airbender” frightfully bombed at the box office in the US and Freida’s lastest film, “Miral” has been getting poor reviews. I was really hoping they would be the breakout actors which gave Hollywood the famous South Asian face.

Freida Pinto has revealed she would star in an Indian film but only if she “loves” the script.

The Slumdog Millionaire actress said that the same rules apply to all roles she is offered, whether they are from Hollywood, Bollywood or anywhere else.

“Quite contrary to what people believe, I haven’t said yes to every international script that has come my way. I have said no to quite a few,” Pinto told IANS.

“Similarly, unless and until I fall in love with the Indian script, I will not do it.”

Now, Dev Patel is all set to star in his first Bollywood flick. Currently shooting in Udaipur with Malaika Arora Khan, the film is called The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

There are a few facts missing here! The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is NOT a Bollywood movie. And Malaika Arora Khan is hardly the star when Oscar winners Dames Judy Dench and Maggie Smith among other British stars to include Dev Patel are in the cast! It is just like Slumdog Millionaire- a British made Hollywood film. Just because it’s filmed in India doesn’t make it a Bollywood production. And as for the Last Airbender- while it may have been panned by critics, it has made over 300 million in the box office. Miral received a few unfavorable reviews but Freida has received a few good reviews and has the support of the director. Hello!! Dev and Freida are the breakout Indian actors in Hollywood….They are well known because of the 8 oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire!
