Butler Univ President Bobby Fong moves to Ursinus College

Eyewitness News has learned that Butler University President Bobby Fong is stepping down. Sports reporter Rich Nye confirms that Fong will take over as president of Ursinus College in Pennsylvania.

Fong has served as Butler’s president since 2001. When he took the reins, he was one of just 20 Asian-American college presidents in the country.

The university says Fong spear-headed record-breaking fundraising in the ButlerRising Human Capital Campaign, which ended in May 2009 with nearly $154 million in gifts and pledges. During his time at Butler, the university doubled its endowment and added new student housing, a health and recreation complex, and a lab and classroom addition to the College Pharmacy and Health Sciences building.

Fong grew up in Oakland, California, and attended Harvard University, where he graduated magna cum laude in 1973 with a bachelor’s degree in English. He also has a doctorate in English Literature from UCLA in 1978.
