‘Glee’s’ Cast Keeps Growing

Rumor has it that Harry Shum, Jr. and Darren Criss (half Filipino and half Irish) are joining the cast as series regulars.

Both actors have extensive experience in the performing arts. However, it’s arguable that Shum, who plays Mike Chang, has the more impressive resume thanks to his dance moves. He’s appeared in many body-moving flicks over the past decade, including “Stomp the Yard,” “Center Stage: Turn It Up,” “Step Up 2: The Streets,” and the granddaddy of all cheesy dance flicks, “You Got Served.”

Several years ago, Criss starred in an online musical called “A Very Potter Musical,” based on the books by J.K. Rowling. The musical went viral, and Criss has been a Web star ever since. On “Glee,” Criss plays gay student Blaine. His version of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” was a runaway hit on iTunes and became a number one single on Billboard. Interestingly, Criss originally tried out for the part of sensitive jock Finn when the show was originally cast. Apparently the producers never forgot him. Sounds like Charice Pempengco (Sunshine)!

Asiance interviewed Harry Shum Jr. back in September of 2009. Check it out to get an in-depth background on his performing arts experience!
