In a trend piece about “the rise of the Asian model,” Vogue has misidentified one of the biggest Chinese models working today, Estée Lauder face Liu Wen, as her compatriot Du Juan.

It’s only Liu Wen, the hottest Asian model walking in Derek Lam’s Spring show!! Helllooo?! Du Juan didn’t even feature on the same catwalk.

Of course, this has sparked an outcry, as people are shocked that it wasn’t noticed before going to print and that the author of the piece couldn’t differentiate between the two models.

Was it an honest error that should be seen as a brief embarrassment and be forgotten about? Or is it a brief glimpse at a bigger, underlying problem of racial attitudes in the fashion industry? Or is just sheer laziness?
