Chef Jamie Oliver and Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel appear in a new TV campaign to encourage tourists to come to Britain.

The campaign, entitled VisitBritain, also persuade those coming from abroad to enjoy the mood of celebration that extends from the recent Royal Wedding to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the 2012 Games.

This global TV campaign marks the start of a major marketing push and will be shown in Britain’s key inbound tourism markets such as the US, China and India.

Shot all around Britain, the adverts will be seen on BBC World News in Europe and on BBC America, and on slots donated by the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum across the Americas and Asia.

The adverts will also be accompanied by a short film from each celebrity which will be shot in a British location of their choice.

VisitBritain chief executive Sandie Dawe said: ‘This is our first global TV campaign for 10 years and marks the start of an ambitious marketing programme.’

Actor and Bond villain Toby Stephens provides the voice-over for the adverts while actor Rupert Everett, actress Dame Judi Dench and model Twiggy also star.

Yes, it’s a commercial that encourages travel to Britain but Dev Patel and Jamie Oliver are American household names.
