On July 17th, Utada Hikaru started tweeting about the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Hikki, who seems to be a soccer fan herself, congratulated Nadeshiko Japan with, “They won! It’s been awhile since I’ve been this impressed, I cried. The spiritual strength of Japanese women is amazing!!“ She even sent out a reply to an international fan saying, “I’m watching the women’s World Cup Finals (soccer), Japan VS USA! I’m sorry babe, but I am ALL FOR JAPAN right now!! LOL.”
On the same day, Yahoo! Japan published an article with many celebrities’ congratulatory messages. In the article, Utada’s name appeared along with a message that wasn’t from her, but her father, Utada Teruzane. Regarding this, Utada tweeted, “This article on Yahoo! news, they published my dad’s tweet (@u3music) as my remark… I want them to correct the ‘Utada Hikaru’ to ‘Utada Teruzane’ lol.” The article was later corrected with an apology to the people affiliated with Utada.
