How Spring Looks On a Bracelet

Cheng Chan Man Chi, a 13-year veteran of jewelry design, took home the top prize in the 12th annual Hong Kong Jewellery Design Competition on Tuesday. To create her piece, Ms. Cheng strategically burned “cracks” onto a silver bangle to create the texture of parched earth, then added a pearl to symbolize a solitary raindrop.

Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, this year’s competition was themed “The Glory of Spring.” Designers submitted more than 370 entries for the contest’s two categories: the open and student groups.

The winning pieces will be showcased in the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show, March 4-8 at the city’s convention center in Wan Chai.

I love designing my own jewelry! I gave out some pieces for Christmas this year. They also have great handmade jewelry up at the Berkshires and in Soho, New York.
