Hot, Sexy and … Weird?

Imagine your favourite K-pop girl group, pretty young things sauntering around, gyrating their hips and dancing sexily in their music video. Now imagine a group of middle-aged mothers doing the same sultry dance routine. If the thought disturbs you, imagine how the five Singapore celebrity mums – veteran actresses Xiang Yun, Pan Ling Ling, Lin Meijiao, May Phua and Vivian Lai – must’ve felt when they first heard they have been tasked to do a sexy K-pop dance number, during the upcoming “The SPD Charity Show.

“When I first saw the video of the dance routine, I looked at Mei Jiao and said ‘Can you do it?’ “We should be learning taichi or yoga, not a sexy dance like this!” Lin added with a laugh.Whatever their concerns, these hot mamas are determined to do their best for the charity show and have been hard at work rehearsing several hours each week for their segment. She expressed that the segment’s ability to attract viewers and call-in donations is the still group’s greatest concern, as the charity show’s ultimate purpose is to help the beneficiaries of the Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD) in Singapore.

The SPD hopes to raise S$3.5 million to support its programmes to re-integrate the physically disabled into society, as well as raise awareness about the importance of creating an inclusive society that accepts them. Donors can call 1900 112 0303 to make a S$5 donation, 1900 112 1313 for a $15 donation, 1900 112 2323 for a S$30 donation and 1900 112 3333 for a S$100 donation. An administrative charge of S$0.20+GST applies to all calls. Donation hotlines are open from February 17 to March 23. Catch “The SPD Charity Show 2011” ‘live’ at 7pm, March 13 on Channel 8.
