Yam Ah Mee lights up PA movie night
Mr Yam Ah Mee was the highlight of a People’s Association movie screening on Saturday night. The “Returning Officer Extraordinaire”, as he is known to his Facebook fans, was treated to cheers and applause from the crowd when he arrived.
Children and adults alike asked to take pictures with Mr Yam, who also heads the People’s Association (PA). He said his new-found fame gives the PA a further opportunity to reach out to Singaporeans, especially the youth.
He said: “In the Facebook, you have the youth. I recognise a lot of them who are my friends’ children, and also my children’s friends. Talking to them is really very good, because you then engage them at a different level, understanding some of the issues the youth face today and interact with them.”
