Fashion 411 - Spring Fling
Dear Tina,I am an over-indulger. As in, show me a trend and I'll buy buy ten of it. The problem is not having too much of one thing, its finding new ways to wear it. Which leads me to point out that plaid was everywhere this winter. My closet is now chock full of checkers, and as I am still riding the high trend tide, I was wondering: can I still wear this trend, even in summer?

Fear not! Yours is a common fashion folly: wearing a seasonal item in months later can make you look out-of-place. Unless, that is, you pair it with a pile of weather appropriate apparel. For instance, if you are going to go with plaid in July, don't wear your boots that day or you"ll look like your ready for hibernation. Plaid in summer sun is definitely manageable and even cute (madras shorts are a favorite!) as look as you pair it with things that signal more beach than blizzard. Anything gauzy, linen, light, and bright will get your plaid to look hot like the weather. Final tip: stick more to the bright patch pairings, like this great print on these J Crew flats. Shelve the brown and black squares until snow hits.

Please settle this once and for all: can a pale girl wear rose gold? I recently saw some of my friends with goreous rose gold chains on, but they are the tan Cali kind of girls. I think rose gold is so feminine, but can I wear it without looking too coppery with my non-Coppertone skin color? Thoughts?

Redheads can wear red and pale girls can sport pinks! Rose gold is one of my favorite metals to work with because it looks terrific on every skin tone: it shines brightly on dark skin tones, emphasizes golds in tans, and draws out a beautifully subtle glow in light skin (that's you!)
