Baidu breaks new ground today as it begins listing real-time content from microblog service Sina Weibo. Search results will also include up-to-date content from China’s other three popular microblogs owned by Tencent Holdings Ltd, NetEase.com and Sohu.com Inc.

Microblog results on Baidu are labeled and can be viewed near the top of the search engine results page. A click on “Newest Microblog Results” will access more related content from the four microblog services.

The move leaves Google in the dust, as the competing search company currently has no deals with Facebook or Twitter to display their search results, after Google’s Realtime Search arrangement with Twitter folded last summer. Baidu controls 83.6 percent of China’s search market, compared to Google’s 11.1 percent, according to data from The Next Web.

Baidu announces its new partnership only two weeks before a new government policy goes into effect in Beijing that will require microblog users to submit their real identities on the service. Many believe the legislation will soon extend to the entire country and will significantly affect social media in China.
